Day 365: Project 365 Complete.

So I had to work today, and then I went and hung out with some friends and watched the "cherry blossom ball" drop (everything in Macon has to have something to do with cherry blossoms) and we stayed out entirely way too late and I was completely exhausted, but once I got home I couldn't sleep...so me and God had a few hours of quality time...

Now I had a fun night and everything, but I do not recommend working 3 12s in a row, staying up till 3 am with your friends and then coming home to spend more time awake reading...that was not the best decision...but it was a great way to end one year and start the next

Day 361: My Jesus broke

I did a lot of thinking today. I've had some pretty deep conversations with people lately and in the midst of all of it, my Jesus fell and broke.

I got it in Haiti almost exactly 1 year ago... now I LOVE going to the beach, but it's crazy how much I miss those mountains... and how everything is making me feel so restless these days

Sunday, December 26, 2010

Day 360: Radical

I love book stores! Which is kinda why I bought a new book today

its not very long but I have a feeling that its gonna take me a while to read it cause I've only read the 1st chapter and it's already got me thinking about a billion different things

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

Day 356: Lacy's Tell-Tail Heart

We were watching Modern Family at Morgan's house (the episode where the fire alarm kept beeping) and every time it beeped Lacy would look at the floor trying to figure out where it was coming from...it was so funny, and yet sad at the same time.

I must also point out that Lacy has demon eyes just like Morgan...you can tell they're in the same family.

Day 355: Christmas Party

Taylor came over and helped me do some baking

Tonight we had our 1st annual College/Career Age Christmas Party, and it was lots of fun!

and somebody thought it was a good idea to put the fake roaches in the food, in my purse, on my phone...and probably lots of other places too...

...very funny. thanks guys.

Monday, December 20, 2010

Day 354: Train Training

Taylor got a Thomas the Train, train track set for Christmas from my parents. I went over to help her set it up and I have to admit that it was much larger than I had originally anticipated

this whole thing runs on 1 AA battery, it's pretty cool. There's even a zip line bridge that the train can go over, I was impressed.

Day 353: Work

On the days I work I do little else...but I usually read my Bible, and there are a few Christian writers/bloggers that I keep up with, James Michael Smith being one of them.
Today James Michael wrote an article about Ricky Gervais' essay explaining "Why I am an Atheist" In the essay, Ricky Gervais says:

Why don’t I believe in God? No, no no, why do YOU believe in God? Surely the burden of proof is on the believer. You started all this. If I came up to you and said, “Why don’t you believe I can fly?” You’d say, “Why would I?” I’d reply, “Because it’s a matter of faith”. If I then said, “Prove I can’t fly. Prove I can’t fly see, see, you can’t prove it can you?” You’d probably either walk away, call security or throw me out of the window and shout, ‘’F—ing fly then you lunatic.”

and I like how James Michael replies:

Again, I can't help but appreciate Gervais' honesty and his refusal to settle for subjectivism. Sadly, having been in ministry for the past decade or so, I would say that the vast majority of Christians would be hard pressed to come up with an answer to this challenge on the spot (I know, because of the countless emails I've gotten on this very subject!). For many, their belief in Jesus is almost entirely unexamined and culturally transmitted (as Ricky Gervais' childhood faith was, by his own account)

This entire concept of people not being able to defend their faith or really know what they even believe in is something that has been weighing on heavily on my heart lately. Recently I've challenged several people with the comment: "How is God working in your life right now?" and holy cow the reactions I've gotten!

People who profess to be Christians, people who should be seeking after God with their whole heart, get highly defensive when asked this simple question. Personally, I believe that every Christian should be able to answer this question, and if you can't then something isn't right with your relationship with God. Now I'm not pointing fingers and I wasn't trying to challenge anyone with this. I originally asked it out of pure curiosity and was astounded to find that there is an overwhelming number of Christians that immediately feel attacked or uncomfortable when they're asked about their relationship with God...which is sad to me, and I don't really understand that feeling. Ask me about myself and I may seem insecure and uneasy, but ask me about my God and I will delight in telling you about his love and mercy and how he uses each day and the most random situations to teach me new things and reinforce old lessons.

I really want to understand why people feel that they can't answer this question. In my opinion, even an "I don't know" is an answer, so how can you just not answer?
I've decided that I'm going to continue to ask people this oh so challenging question, starting with whoever is reading this:
How is God working in your life right now?

Day 340: Date Night with my Best Friend

I read an article todayd that stated, "In Gallup’s annual survey that ranks occupations by their perceived honesty and ethical standards, nurses finished as the most trusted profession for the 11th time in 12 years." I'm one of the most trusted professionals! How awesome is that?

I took my sister out for dinner tonight

Day 333: E-mails

I should have learned in nursing school that you never leave a decision to a group of people. You'd think that by now, by this point in my life, that I would have figured out that the bigger the group, the bigger the drama when trying to make a decision. For example, in nursing school they let our class vote to decide if we could wear blue scrubs to clinicals instead of our horrible pleated white astronaut/karate uniforms and after 3 rounds of voting, in which we offered to pay to buy new blue scrubs for anyone that said no, we still had to walk around like abominable snowmen...
But obviously I did not learn, because today I sent an open ended e-mail out to our entire college/career age ministry at church about a t-shirt design and holy cow the e-mails! 5 hours, 88 e-mails, 2 g-mail chats, 3 facebook messages, and 52 text messages later....I finally just made the decision myself and decided that if anyone is upset, mad, has their feelings hurt...well oh well, that's life. I blame myself for the entire situation because I should have known better....
and in the midst of all of this I burnt my chin on a piece of pizza...still not sure how that happened, but it hurt!

how can something so tasty be so dangerous?

Day 332: It's beginning to feel like Christmas

I started wrapping Christmas presents today.

these are for 7 people...good thing my siblings and I drew names for Christmas presents cause if I had to buy for everyone this stack would be quadrupled.

Oh there was also another present (for my roommate), but I let her open it early and I was so happy that I did. She screamed with delight, it was great! I kinda want to go buy her more presents just cause her reaction was so fun....I'm gonna be broke after this Christmas.

Saturday, November 27, 2010

Day 331: Mille Bornes

Every time my family gets together we play some kind of game. Usually its "Aww Heck", last year it was Blockus (which I won), and this year we rediscovered Mille Bornes. It's a French card game that we played all the time as kids and I just learned that Timothy cheated back then cause the rule book definitely has different rules...

anyway, Timothy insisted that we play every time someone sat down at the table. So at breakfast and lunch we all had to play...even though Timothy was losing and he's a terrible loser. It was still lots of fun (mostly cause I beat Timothy cause he wasn't allowed to cheat anymore!)

Friday, November 26, 2010

Day 330: Rainy Day

As tradition states, the day after Thanksgiving is when we decorate for Christmas. Timothy put up the lights outside in the rain, he's very dedicated.

Meanwhile I stood on the front porch taking pictures...there were a TON of lizards

I see you!

Kelly and I went to dinner with one of the Wilson families at our church and one of the things their girls do while they wait is decorate napkins, it a brilliant idea! They decorated mine...

...apparently I'm a Ms.

Day 322: Harry Potter!

Midnight showing of Harry Potter!

We went to dinner dressed up like this, and got a lot of compliments about how "cute" we were...I think they thought we were all in high school...

Some people dressed up like Harry Potter Puppet Pals

Day 317: Baby Shower for Elliott

I went to Meagan's Baby Shower and got to see a few of my favorite people:

we couldn't take a good picture cause we were all too busy laughing.

These were some of the decorations on the table

Personally I like the robot...it's not very often that you see a baby robot
