Day 90: River Monsters

I got a parking ticket for backing into a parking space....but I didn't back into the space, I pulled through it, besides who has ever heard of getting a ticket for backing into a parking space? I took a picture of the parking ticket as my picture for today but I accidentally deleted it...and now I can't find the ticket...so I'm just gonna "borrow" some pictures from Animal Planet's River Monsters: with extreme angular Jeremy Wade.

I love to watch the show River Monsters. I don't know why cause I hate fish. If I get in the water and there is a fish within a mile of me, then it will find me and scare the crap out of me by either brushing against me or biting me. I don't really like to get into ponds, lakes, oceans, or rivers for that very reason. I think that's why I like to go fishing...and I think that's why I like to watch River Monsters, it just encourages my dislike for fish infested waters...anyways here are some of the fish he has caught

wels catfish

alligator gar (this one lives in the Southeastern US...not helping my severe dislike of fish)

Day 89: Elephant Toes

The weather was absolutely beautiful today! I went on a walk around town with some friends and just enjoyed the sunshine while I could. We also took some random pictures....

The Depot

I just love these girls!

I also got to be a part of the return of Phase 10 Tuesdays!! Beth won, as always...but it was still lots of fun! Then Sarah came over and stayed the night and we had an epic skype/google video chat/phone conversation with David, Jonathan, and Matt....it was pretty awesome.

Quotes of the Day:
"I get dizzy and I have to take drugs, then I fall into a coma and wake up, and I'm ok"~ Amy

"I got you a present! It's from my happy meal. It's a dragon! Cause you like dragons!"~ Sarah

"Yeah he's lost. He doesn't know what to do by himself out in the wild"~ Matt (aka Larry)

"Pokemon is making a comeback!"~ Jonathan

"I don't use the bad cuss words, I just use the baby ones"~ Robin

"Because you're married! ...and your wife's right there"~ Me

"The phasebook gods love me!"~ Beth

"Thank the freakin' lord!"~ Beth

"Nothing better than beer in a cinderella cup"~ Beth

(in case you were wondering, this was my blueberry beer that beth shared with me...)

Day 88: I wore a dress

I felt like crap today. I have some kind of head cold/allergy thing going on and it is making me dizzy and sleepy and I really didn't want to get out of bed today...but I had a group presentation to do, and I had to dress "fancy" (as Zach said)...yay... So I wore a dress...which is very uncharacteristic of me, but I must say that I got a lot of compliments and I'm thinking that the next time I feel like crap and I still have to go to class, then I might put forth the extra effort to actually get ready in the morning, because it kinda makes you feel better. But I still came home and basically passed out. Luckily my roommate came and woke me up to go eat dinner.

Andrea had a presentation in Athens today so she was dressed up too

This was after my nap, and yes I slept in my dress. I love dresses that don't wrinkle!

Andrea was also my driver for the evening cause I was kinda out of it

Quote of the Day:
"Hey Mr. Kidney" ~ Judit and Renee (they sang a song in class that I recorded for them...it's stuck in my head now)

Day 87: What's the craic?

Aaron and Pete from Bluetree came and sang at our church this morning and then the whole band played a special free concert at our church tonight and it was pretty awesome! Bluetree is a Christian band from Ireland, they wrote the song "God of this City" and if you've never heard of them then you definitely need to look them up! They don't have a record label but they were just nominated for the new artist of the year dove award!
This is Aaron, the lead singer. He's wearing a shirt that my friend Morgan made. She did it free hand and she made 11 of them, they're pretty cool

He called up some people from the audience to help show the motions for "How great is the love of God"

Quote of the Day:
"In Ireland we say, what's the craic? not like drugs or anything. It's like how you say 'what's up' over here. There we say, 'What's the craic?' and you respond 'the craic is ninety.' I don't know why the craic is ninety, I once asked why it wasn't 120, and my friend said that then the walls would be falling down and if it were 45 then it would just be a really bad day. It's kinda like Jesus, He was and is and will always be...so the craic was and will always be ninety" ~ Aaron

Day 86: Aflutter

The term aflutter has an entirely different meaning for me now. I worked at the hospital today but my mind was kinda still on spring break and during report the nurse said "a flutter" but I heard "aflutter" and I got really confused and I knew that I was missing something and I felt really dumb when I figured out that she was talking about Atrial flutter, which is an abnormal heart rhythm. I was planning on looking up the specifics about A-flutter when I got home, but I had to "present" my patient to the charge nurse and after he quizzed me on abnormal heart rhythms and I just stared at him blankly, my nurse found some study materials for me...so this is atrial flutter:

by the end of the day my patient was having sinus rhythm with PACs (premature atrial contractions), and I know what that looks like...but it figures that the charge nurse would quiz me about the one that I'm unfamiliar with.

Day 85: Who said anything about shrooms?

I had a very happy and successful day! I went shopping with my sister and found dresses for graduation/pinning!!! Everything I tried on actually fit me, which doesn't happen very often, so that was pretty exciting. Then we took the girls to a birthday party
Taylor got a turtle tattoo

Blake talked on the phone the whole time

Then I went to Mellow Mushroom with some friends

Sarah sang along to the music

"Hey, can you get up? I have to pee"
"...I'm singing"

and Jonathan and I are both ADD (he is actually ADD, I'm just hyper sometimes), so we decided to make flowers....

I also made a lily, which we discovered can be spun like a top. It was pretty exciting

Quote of the Day:
"No its fine, my thigh is just on fire right now, but its quite alright"

Day 84: IKEA

Another fun filled day with some pretty amazing people! I went to IKEA for the first time and it is pretty much the coolest place ever! There's lots of cool stuff but I think my favorite thing were the arrows. They have arrows that tell you where to go! So if you get lost (like I often do) then you can just look down and there are arrows that tell you which way to go!

I realize that I am probably overly excited about these arrows, but they really were cool! And it's the little things that make life interesting...right? I wish there were arrows at the hospital to tell me where to go...half the time I just stand in one spot and turn in a circle until I figure out where I am. If I built a hospital, then I would put arrows on the floor...I kinda want to put arrows in my house now...except I don't know where they should lead to...my bedroom? that might confuse people if they come over to visit... but if they were glow in the dark arrows then I wouldn't have to turn on any lights downstairs when I get home from work!

We found a cookbook in English...but I don't think any kids would want to eat that stuff...

Ansley found her future bedroom

the big alligator ated the baby

...and there's an arrow behind Mere's head!

Chicken Lo Mein, yum!

This was perhaps the best chinese food I've ever eaten! Actually it was the best chinese food I've ever eaten AND I ate it with chop sticks! (It's ok for you to be impressed because I am pretty talented!)

Quote of the Day:
"When I get married I want to make sure................... I just want that"~ Ansley

Day 83: Annual Atlanta Trip

This was just a happy day! This time last year we all went to Amy's had dinner, hung out, dyed easter eggs, then went to the CDC and Carter Center for class. So this year we went back to Amy's house and made dinner...well Mere made dinner, Amy and Ansley made salad, I made rice crispy treat eggs and we all decorated them with chocolate and sprinkles...it was way tastier than a bunch of boiled eggs...

Meagan is just cute! I ♥ her!

notice that Amy and Ansley are wearing the same bracelet

Mere cooking an "easy" dinner for everyone...

Yay! Rice Crispy Treat Eggs!!

Movie time!

Quote of the Day:
"Eww, its warm. Even though its sterile and its mine...its still gross."~ Meagan

"Just shove it in your mouth... that's what he said"~ Meredith

Day 82: Can I smell you?

I drive barefoot with the windows down and the music turned up as loud as I can stand it and I usually sing at the top of my lungs, so I understand that you have to do something to keep yourself entertained and awake while driving...but today I was driving beside a guy who was dancing while driving. And by dancing I mean that he had both hands off the steering wheel and I'm pretty sure his eyes were closed cause he was practically banging his head against the window as he beat on his imaginary drums. It was like a train wreck...I just couldn't look away. I couldn't decide if I should laugh or be afraid that he was going to crash into me...luckily he was a speeder so he quickly left me behind and I was able to finish my drive to Macon in relative safety.

Before I left Effingham, I played with Jack.

he was actually a good boy today, I was proud of him. He even smiled!

Quote of the Day:
"Yaya! Can you see my big face?"~ Taylor

"Is handsomeness a burden your face has to live with everyday?"~ Old Spice commercial
(little known fact: I think the Old Spice commercials are hilarious. Also, I love the smell of Old Spice...like seriously. I was standing in the elevator at the hospital next to a guy who was wearing Old Spice and it took me a few minutes to realize that I was kinda sniffing him...luckily he didn't notice...cause that would have been a little awkward... There really isn't a way to talk yourself out of that situation. Like, what would you say "Pardon me, I was just smelling you" ...they might call security)

Day 81: Nintendo

I come from a family of nerds. We've won chess tournaments, we were in the honors/ap classes in school, we read/watched all the comic book series, and have probably played every game ever invented. Proof of my family's nerdy-ness, here are all of the game consoles that are in my parents' house:

in case you don't recognize them that's a nintendo, super nintendo, playstation, PS2, and Wii...and surprisingly they still work (and yes that is a chess master's game in the super nintendo...who knew that you could make being a nerd even nerdier)...I thought he had a PS3 too, but apparently not.

Quote of the Day: "bacon is the candybar of meats"

Sunday, March 21, 2010

Day 80: You're in math club?

The wallpaper in the kitchen at my parent's church is pretty ugly, but it has pineapples in it...so of course I find it intriguing...even though it is ugly...actually the pineapples are the only redeeming quality

One of my dad's youth kids had this shirt on. Can you figure out what it means?

Saturday, March 20, 2010

Day 79: "Welcome to the baby shower"

Busy, busy day. First breakfast with the boys, then some flower and food arranging, then Courtney's Baby Shower:

all my sisters

2 of my best friends from high school

...its strange that they're both married and Courtney's gonna have a baby soon...I feel old

then I got lost on the way to a friend's house, then a CPR class, then dinner at Courtney and Daniel's house, then a trip to Lowe's:

we were in Lowe's entirely way too long...

Quote of the Day:
"How do you walk on those things?!"~ Mrs. Laurie
"My feet?" ~ Courtney

"Our Aunt made out with a cousin...I think he's a 2nd or 3rd cousin"~ Courtney
"Everybody is our cousin according to Grandma" ~ Justin

"I want roller skates like that!"~ Courtney
"...that's a car"~ Justin

Day 78: "You look like Sarah Palin"

Another day at the hospital, but today when I got off at 7:00 pm it was still sunny outside!!! I was so excited!!!

But my excitement quickly dissipated when I crossed the street and ran into a Bradford Pear Tree, which if you don't know, smells HORRIBLE...

Quote of the Day:
"The one story I can laugh at about a midget...now I'm heart broken"~ Rennata

Day 77: Good News and Bad News

Bad News: I had to wake up at 4:50 am for a 12 hour shift at the hospital
Good News: My preceptor texted me at 5:50 telling me she didn't have to work today.
Bad News: I was already on my way to the hospital and Meagan had to turn around and drive me home...
Good News: I got to go back to sleep!
Bad News: I really needed the hours and I had just gotten caught up...so now I'm behind again
Good News: I really needed to sleep, and sleeping was very nice! And I got to see my roommate before she left for spring break
Bad News: I woke up in time to watch my roommate leave for spring break...without me...
Good News: I only have one more 12 hour shift before my spring break officially begins!
Bad News: I realized that I am one of the only people left in Milledgeville cause everyone has already left to enjoy their spring break

this is the parking lot behind my house and there are only 3 other cars still out there...it's usually full...sad day...

Good News: there were new episodes for Community and The Office tonight!

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

Day 76: He looks like a leprechaun

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I got to sleep in, hang out with some friends, watch a little UFC, and I learned that Andrea can be quite hilarious....

I also got to hang out with Tara! We go to the same school yet I almost never see her

I don't really know why we all decided to only sit on this one couch...

Casey needs a new green shirt

Quote of the Day:
"Aww, you look like St. Patrick's Day!"~ Tara

"This tastes like a Christmas tree"~ some girl I met

"I want to pick daffodils! I always want to pick the lord's daffodils, but he's always there and he might notice me picking them...if you ever notice them missing then don't be surprised to find them in our house cause I probably picked them..."~ Andrea

Day 75: Naked Ladies

After a rather interesting day of legal and ethical class (during which we played a game where I sadly did not win the shamrock sunglasses), I got to be featured in a short film by Emma for her class project! (or something)

Emma tried to get me to look at her dirty magazines....

Quote of the Day:
"Zotero....it's just fun"~ Mrs. Sewell
"Avian flu wins, YAY!!!"~ Mrs. Sewell

Day 74: A Comforting Article

This was the first e-mail I read today....

...how comforting...here's an excerpt from the article on nurse.com:

“Nursing practice is more difficult today than it was in 2007,” says Casey Marks, chief operating officer of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, based in Chicago. “The bar has been raised, and, quite simply, the exam is harder. It’s projected that fewer students will pass on the first attempt.”

The NCSBN in December raised the passing standards for the national licensure examination after an analysis of the basic knowledge and skills new nurses need to practice safely. Since the last analysis in 2007, healthcare has become even more complex and sophisticated, requiring new nurses to have a greater baseline nursing knowledge and critical thinking skills.

“Nursing is a dynamic, continually evolving discipline that employs critical thinking to integrate increasingly complex knowledge, skills, technologies and client care activities into evidence-based nursing practice,” according to the NCSBN 2010 NCLEX Test Plan.

Quote of the Day:
"This isn't a christian music concert. This is mute math. You can freakin' crowd surf to mute math...and stab someone in the head"~ Andrew

"I'm pretty sure this is the song that I stabbed a guy during..."~ Andrew

Day 73: Finger Painting

I got to finger paint at church today and then me and Sarah (and Bo...) got to hang out. I also got an invitation to my sister-in-law's baby shower

Quote of the Day: "I found his home phone and address online. When are we going to boston? It wasn't hard. his parents names are in the wikipedia article i was reading and I just plugged them into anywho.com and it gave me a map and everything! He's actually in south hamilton. not boston. and he's practically asking for it cause he put his zip code in a song" ~ Sarah

Day 71: Weave

I got to work in the emergency center and it was SO much fun! but it was crazy busy. The weather was really bad so there were a lot of wrecks, which is horrible...but it provided me with lots of learning opportunities. I was also able to help in one of the traumas!! The doctors were trying to take out a woman's weave and I got to tell them how to do it...

I was bad and got cheesecake at lunch...

Quote of the Day: "So Jessica, how did you become an expert on this hair stuff?"~ ER Dr.

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Day 70: Fax

I got to see a heart cath today! It was pretty cool and I had an awesome patient! Actually my day was good, but it wore me out... This was on my car when I was leaving after my shift:

The best part of my day, I love you Amo!!
(I also love the tape, it made me smile!)

Quote of the day:
"Just fax it again" ...my teacher's request after I just told her I tried faxing the same thing 6 times on different fax machines...but yes, faxing it again should solve the problem...

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Day 69: Runts are fruit

I decided to eat healthier. So, I bought fruit and yogurt to eat instead of just random crap. Well that lasted till about 4 pm...when the candy the doctor's gave me that morning started calling my name.

but runts are fruit, so it's ok...

Tuesday, March 9, 2010

Day 68: The Epitome of Hyperbole

I changed my blog background/layout and stuff!! I'm still working on it so you may notice that some things don't work...sorry...

The weather was absolutely wonderful today! So we talked our teacher into having class outside! ...which in retrospect was probably not the best idea because then I didn't have the computer/internet to distract me...

Quote of the Day:
"What code status is your goldfish?" ~Amy

"This guy raped my ear. This guy forcefully told me stories in my ear hole..." ~Ron White (you can't fix stupid)
